Bette Kabat asks Dad:
I
purchased a Windsor fan back style chair at an antique mall and
on the under-side of the seat is a paper lable that
says Heywood Brothers and Wakefield Company Chicago. Could you possibly
give me the dates that that lable was put on the furniture? This
chair is in great shape, but the wood is very dark. Any info you
would have would be greatly appreciated.
Thank-you,
Bette
Dad
replies:
Bette,
The
windsor chair you purchased pre-dates the lines of Heywood-Wakefield
that we carry. Those busy Heywood brothers started turning trees
into seating in 1826!
The
paper label indicates that the chair was produced sometime in
the first decade or so of the 20th century. It's definitely post
1897. I'd say 1910 is a good, round year.
Please
invite us to it's 100th birthday party.
Thanks,
Dad
